JourneyWoman August Book Club: Travel by Book

Published 9 months ago • 2 min read

Dear Reader,

Where would we be without books to inspire new journeys? Our August book, "Still Life" by Sarah Winman, set in Florence, is a funny, heartwarming read - you'll fall in love with Ulysses and 99-year-old Evelyn and laugh your way through the book. In September, we return to Morocco and Spain for Maria Dueñas' "The Seamstress", a fascinating story that takes place during the Spanish Civil War.

We need your help choosing our next six books to carry us into 2024 (can you believe it's just around the corner??) Preview our selections and take our quick survey here. We'll announce the new books in our September newsletter.

All are welcome at our book club discussion, whether you've read the book or not. It's held on the third Wednesday of each month at 8 pm ET. To see the dates and books from now until September, please visit our Book Club Page here. For those who cannot make it, subscribe to our YouTube channel to see recordings, which are generally up within a week of the event. Remember, when you buy a book using the links on our site, it helps support our book club, so thank you!

Happy reading!

"Still Life" by Sarah Winman: A Love Letter to Florence

With beautiful prose, extraordinary tenderness, and bursts of humour and light, Still Life is a sweeping portrait of unforgettable individuals who come together to make a family, and a richly drawn celebration of beauty and love in all its forms.

Meet Joyce Perrin, Author, "Ants in my Pants"

Now 86, Joyce Perrin has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, travelled the Silk Road in a pickup truck, and danced with oppressed women in Africa. Join us on September 28 to meet Joyce and other 80+ authors at a special webinar.

Vote now: Help us Choose our Next Six Books

In 2023, the JourneyWoman Travel Book Club explored Ukraine, South America, Morocco, Japan, New Zealand, Spain, Nigeria and Italy. To end the year and to get us started in 2024, we’ve curated a shortlist of 12 books with a strong sense of place that cover a range of genres, including mystery, thrillers, memoir, suspense and historical fiction.

We have hundreds of books on our Bookshop.org page! When you purchase a book on Bookshop.org you are supporting small independent bookstores.
