JourneyWoman June Book Club: Travel by Book

Dear Reader,

I don’t know about you, but I always find a little boost of inspiration in our book club. From memoirs and non-fiction, to travelogues and guides, these books take us around the world, and then some!

Our June 2023 Book of the Month is "The Girl With the Louding Voice", set in Nigeria. This remarkable book by Abi Daré is all about fighting for your dreams. It shares the story of Adunni, a teenage girl who never loses sight of her goal to escape poverty, choose her own future and help others do the same. Join us on Wednesday, June 21 at 8 pm ET to talk about the themes in this book and share our own aspirations. (Register below).

In May, we held our first-ever Writer's Circle, featuring JourneyWoman readers who have written their own books about Nepal, Greece, Guatemala and Tasmania (details below). In early June, JourneyWoman writer and solo traveller Karen Gershowitz gave us a preview of her new book, "Wanderlust", which you can learn about here. Karen will be in Victoria and Vancouver this week so please sign up for one of our meetups!

Join our monthly book club meeting - and bring a friend!

With July around the corner, we're midway through our 2023 Book Club selections, and every book seems to be better than the last! Together, we've explored Ukraine, South America, Morocco, Japan, New Zealand and now Nigeria. Our next two books for women take us to Spain, Morocco (yes, again!) and Italy.

Our book club discussion runs the third Wednesday of each month at 8 pm ET. You do not have to read the book to attend as we also talk about the destination and central themes in the book. To see the dates and books from now until September, please visit our Book Club Page here. For those who cannot make it, subscribe to our YouTube channel to see recordings, which are generally up within a week of the event.

Happy reading!
