JourneyWoman June Events: Get Connected
Dear Reader, Almost 30 years ago, JourneyWoman was founded in response to a basic human need — one of connection. At that time, those in charge of travel sections in the media were, for the most part, men. The articles they published perpetuated the idea that men lead all travel expeditions, and didn’t address solo women’s concerns like loneliness, fear, safety or camaraderie. In March 2020, we started weekly community calls over Zoom to build friendships among women during the pandemic. We also host a Travel Book Club that meets monthly and launched a private JourneyWoman Solo Travel Wisdom group, which just passed 8,000 members! We are also on Instagram at @journeywoman_original and JourneyWoman on Facebook. Join us! There are many ways you can connect with other like-minded women. Join us at an Upcoming Event July 8, 10-12 pm EST, Toronto Move for Freedom Hike with Wild Women Expeditions, Rouge National Urban Park – Sign up here! On Saturday, July 8, Wild Women Expeditions and JourneyWoman are joining forces to host a Toronto-based Move for Freedom hiking event to raise funds for Ally Global Foundation. Ally Global Foundation is a Canadian charity working to prevent human trafficking and provide survivors with resources to enable their healing process. Ally assists women with finding safe housing, educational opportunities and job training in Nepal and Cambodia, and provides training and trafficking awareness programs in Canada. We will gather at 10 am on July 8th, 2023 (rain or shine–let’s hope for SHINE!) at Rouge National Urban Park, the largest urban park in North America in support of Ally Group for Move for Freedom, to raise funds to prevent human trafficking.
