JourneyWoman May Book Club: Travel by Book

Published 12 months ago • 2 min read

Dear JourneyWoman,

It's Mother's Day today so we want to start by acknowledging our mothers, and those who came before us, grandmothers included. We hope you enjoy this new article featuring three inspiring women from the JourneyWoman community who are sharing their wisdom with the next generation, while embracing new ways to travel in "Travels With My Grandchildren: Lessons from Three Globe-Trotting Grannies".

In our latest JourneyWoman survey, Japan ranked #3 on our list of places women want to explore in 2023. This month, our May 2023 Book of the Month is "The Kimono Tattoo", set in Japan. In writing the book, Dr. Rebecca Copeland wants to make Japanese culture accessible to everyone, and also provided tips for those who want to travel there.

We have two special zoom events coming up for you: on May 25, we highlight four women from the JourneyWoman community who have written travel memoirs about Greece, Nepal, Cape Horn and Guatemala. On June 5, "Travel Mania" author Karen Gershowitz is sharing her solo adventures from her new book "Wanderlust: Extraordinary People, Quirky Places and Curious Cuisine." Please join us and support these amazing women storytellers! (see below for details).

Join our monthly book club meeting - and bring a friend!

In partnership with TripFiction, our book club runs the third Wednesday of each month at 8 pm ET. You do not have to read the book to attend as we also talk about the destination and central themes in the book. To see the dates and books from now until September please visit our Book Club Page here. For those who cannot make it, subscribe to our YouTube channel to see recordings, which are generally up within a week of the event.

With thanks and gratitude,

Carolyn, Sally Jane, Wendy and Tina

Our May 2023 Book of the Month: Rebecca Copeland's "The Kimono Tattoo"

A suspenseful thriller, set in Kyoto, Japan. Join our monthly Book Club discussion on Wednesday, May 17, at 8 pm ET where we'll learn about Japanese rituals and enjoy tea together!

We have hundreds of books on our Bookshop.org page! When you purchase a book on Bookshop.org you are supporting small independent bookstores.
