Dear JourneyWoman, When is the last time you felt the joy of discovery — the feeling of awe and amazement that erupts in your chest when you least expect it? The past 24 hours here in Egypt have been like that for me. For the next two weeks, I'm here as a guest of Swan Hellenic, on my first-ever expedition cruise down the Suez Canal. Swan Hellenic is our founding Small Ships partner in our Women's Travel Directory, which provides you with no single supplement and sustainable ways to travel, including sailing and river cruising. With less than 100 rooms on this ship, I've already met several solo women, and new friendships are being made. I'm sharing my journey every day on our Solo Travel Wisdom group if you'd like to learn more. I love travel in all its forms and will never take it for granted. Thanks to travel, I've learned how to be curious, independent, brave and responsible for myself. I can't imagine my life without the opportunity and privilege of travel. One of the things I've learned is that travel doesn't have to be far from home to be transformative, so this month we look at travel at home as well as features on France and Istanbul. Have other places you want to learn about? Visit our Destinations section for Women's Guides on 18 other regions and countries. I also think we, as women, can make the world better through travel. Last week was World Tourism Day, so I asked five women leaders what we can do to create positive change. Some of their ideas might surprise you. I believe women's voices need to be heard, which is why we created the travel industry's first Women's Speaker's Bureau. We're adding new members every day, so please submit an application! I'd love to know from you - what do you think we can change to make travel better? Send me an email with your thoughts. I hope you enjoy our monthly newsletter — our writers would love your feedback. Wishing all of our Canadian members a very happy Thanksgiving! With gratitude, Carolyn Ray, Editor/CEO JourneyWoman P.S. Help us grow our mailing list.
