JourneyWoman Webinar Event: Solo Travel Memoirs by Women Over 80

Published 5 months ago • 2 min read

Dear JourneyWoman,

When is it too late to embark on a journey? The answer is simple: never, especially if you're a JourneyWoman. In this month's Community Call, we're celebrating the spirit of women who continue to travel well into their 80s and beyond. Our call will be hosted by Diana Eden, our Travel Over 80 writer, and features three remarkable women who have authored memoirs. These inspiring women include Joyce Perrin, age 86, Author of Ants in My Pants, Ruth Malloy, age 91, Author of Brightening My Corner: A Memoir of Dreams Fulfilled, and Faye Day, age 85, known for her Every Nook and Cranny series of travel guides.

During the discussion, we'll delve into each author's journey, exploring how they found their way to writing their books. They'll also generously share their travel wisdom, anecdotes, and provide valuable advice for both aspiring travelers and writers. We invite you to join this dialogue, whether you bring your grandmothers, mothers, sisters, children, friends or simply tag someone who could use a dose of inspiration. Read more about our panelists below.

This webinar is being held at 8 PM EST (check your local time zone here) this Thursday 28 September 2023. There is a $2.50 charge to reserve your place with all proceeds donated to After Breast Cancer. Please note we only have capacity for 100 women, so we recommend registering early to avoid missing out. Calls are recorded and will be shared on our YouTube channel.

We can't wait to see you there!

Meet Our Panel

Speaker: Joyce E. Perrin - Author of Ants in My Pants

Joyce says it’s never too late to follow your passion and move out of your comfort zone. At 86, she has travelled solo to 156 countries and 31 territories, climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, traveled overland in a truck on the Silk Road, and stayed with people in their homes in countries such as Zambia, Tanzania, Namibia, Lesotho and South Africa. She has recently published her memoir to share her life lessons with others. Read more here.

Speaker: Ruth Lor Malloy - Author of Brightening My Corner

Ruth’s dream was to be a foreign correspondent, combining her love of travel, writing and learning, yet even her teachers told her that people of Chinese origin were not allowed to be journalists. That didn’t stop her. She wrote North America’s first English-language travel guide to China in 1973, and has worked tirelessly to foster intercultural dialogue and justice for marginalized groups. Speaker: Faye Day - Author of Every Nook & Cranny

Faye is on a mission to inspire women to explore our incredible planet by sharing historical facts, captivating stories, thrilling adventures, and delightful anecdotes through her books. What's remarkable is that she continues to travel the world solo, backpacking her way around it even today. Read more here.
